Currently, we are focused on the preliminary work for this alignment. We are developing plans, and will be seeking additional expertise in order to effectively undertake this development effort once the Common Core Standards are finalized.

The information in this section will be updated periodically to reflect our progress on this important initiative and to explain the timing and availability of the revised curriculum content.

The creation and adoption of Common Core Standards is a momentous occasion that will certainly help our nation’s students compete more readily in a global economy. The Curriculum Crafter® Tool, with content that is fully aligned to the Common Core Standards, will significantly advance the success of teachers and students alike.

Common Core

The Common Core Standards being adopted by 48 of 50 states will create many new content development and instructional opportunities for teachers and students. Kent ISD is leading the revision of curriculum content in an exciting summer project. Twenty-six collaborative teams, one for each grade level subject area in K-12 LA and Math will collaborate to rewrite instructional units for these grades/subjects. In addition to the rich, applied learning experience and job specific professional development provided, teacher participants will:

1. Receive 18 SB-CEUs or 6 graduate credits* from GVSU, CMU or WMU.

2. Gain a deeper understanding of the changes in course and curriculum content

3. Become actively involved in the professional learning network that will help them understand and apply instructional approaches essential to meeting the Common Core standards

*Kent ISD will pay the SB-CEU application fee for participants that apply for SB-CEUs. Tuition payments to earn graduate credit will be the responsibility of the participant.
